RESIDENTIAL TREATMENT

What Is A Residential Treatment Center?

In dual diagnosis treatment, a residential treatment center is a live-in health care facility that provides 24-hour support from licensed clinical staff such as addiction psychiatrists, substance abuse counselors, holistic therapists, and licensed medical staff. Many treatment centers have facilities that resemble homes to make people feel “home away from home,” which eliminates the sterile setting of office space, and creates a warmer, more comfortable environment conducive to recovery.

Are All Residential Treatment Centers The Same?

Differentiating between an “average” and a superb residential treatment center is essential in determining which treatment provider is right for you.  Recommended by Dr. Phil, New Method Wellness is one of the nation’s best treatment centers for alcohol and drug addiction, offering clients the following essential components for their residential treatment program:

DRUG AND ALCOHOL DETOXIFICATION

Under the direct supervision and care of a physician, a client eliminates toxins from his body that were produced by drug and alcohol abuse. If necessary, the addiction psychiatrist will use medication-assisted treatment to ease withdrawal symptoms and reduce cravings.

MEDICATION-ASSISTED TREATMENT (MAT)

Also known as Medication Management Therapy (MTM), MAT is a pharmacological intervention used in conjunction with counseling and behavioral therapies to provide a holistic approach to substance abuse treatment.  Commonly prescribed medications used in MAT may include Suboxone and Ativan.

INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING

Over the course of multiple sessions, the counselor familiarizes himself with the client’s past history, characteristics, and sphere of influence.  The therapist works with the individual to establish goals and a treatment plan that will help the client achieve those objectives.

GROUP COUNSELING

In addition to individual counseling, group counseling provides peer support from others who are also in recovery. Shared commonalities create a special camaraderie among members of the group; program alumni are often invited to provide moral support and motivation, and clients learn about strategies that will help them when they graduate from the program.

ADDICTION EDUCATION

Therapists share important information and resources with clients and their loved ones regarding life skills training, detailed information about specific types of therapy, post-treatment expectations, and support programs.  Guidelines are given to family members and significant others who play a crucial role in helping their loved ones sustain successful and long-term recovery.

LIFE SKILLS TRAINING

Learning how to handle responsibilities and applying healthy concepts such as self-care, fitness, nutrition, and relapse prevention are some of the skills that clients learn during addiction treatment.  Skills training is essential for those who have never developed life skills and for those who may have “let themselves go” after a period of unemployment, drug and alcohol abuse, and/or codependent/dysfunctional relationships.

CONTINUING CARE/FOLLOW-UP CARE

Before a client completes a residential treatment program, a therapist will establish a follow-up care plan to reinforce recovery when the client assimilates back into society.  Appointments for individual/family counseling are set up, and graduates of the program will have an opportunity to give back to the recovery community by joining an alumni group.

REFERRALS TO MUTUAL SUPPORT GROUPS

In addition to Continuing Care, therapists will also refer their clients to mutual support groups in the community, which may include 12-Step Groups and Non-12 Step Groups.  These are nonprofessional peer support groups that provide emotional, social, and spiritual support for individuals who have recovered from drug and alcohol addiction.  The most well-known mutual support group is Alcoholics Anonymous, but clients can utilize the resources given by their therapist or find their own support group at a local church or non-religious interest group.  The main goal is to provide the social network that is necessary to sustain recovery. Each center is staffed with clinical practitioners who conduct individual and group counseling sessions.  Residents have easy access to urgent and emergency medical care 24 hours a day; credentialed staff members are always on-site, ready to respond in the event of a crisis such as intentional self-harm.

HELP IS AVAILABLE

It’s Time For A New Method

Why Is Residential Treatment Necessary?

Residential treatment is recommended for individuals who may benefit more from higher levels of care that are not available through multiple outpatient sessions. During the initial intake, our experienced addiction psychiatrists meet with the client to determine his level of needs based on the following factors:

After assessing the severity of the situation, the addiction therapist then determines the course of treatment, which factors in the level of care and length of stay required for optimum results.

Take A Look Inside Our Addiction Treatment Centers

Our outpatient Wellness Treatment Center spans five suites in the Ortega business community, harboring four spacious group rooms, eighteen individual counseling offices, a client kitchen, a dining room, and plenty of indoor and outdoor lounge space for downtime in between groups and individual therapy.

In addition to our outpatient treatment centers, we have three beautifully furnished homes sprinkled over the neighboring beach cities around Capistrano Beach, San Clemente, and Pacific Coast Highway (PCH).
